Connecting People To GOD

Children's Ministry

Our Children's Ministry is a big part of Octavia Baptist Church.

SUNDAY SCHOOL
We have Sunday School classes for all ages - nursery thru 6th. - as well as Sunday evening classes that include lessons, singing, and other learning opportunities.

Wednesday night is devoted to the AWANA program.  Check out the AWANA link to get more information about this part of the children's ministry.

BIBLE RELEASED EDUCATION
On the second Thursday of each month during the school year our church host is host to the Smithville School students from 1st. through 8th. grades who have presented a signed consent form from their parents.  These students are released from school and are bused to Octavia Baptist Church for one hour of singing, Bible lessons, play time and snacks.
This program had it's inception in 1916 and has gained acceptance in many states.
For more information, go to their web site at:  www.rtce.org

A typical Bible Time hour consists of:

    A.  opening time with recitation of the overall Bible truth (Phillipians 3:10 - that I may know Him), a drawing for an attendance prize, a skit to illustrate the month's Bible truth, & singing
    B.  lesson time where the month's Bible truth is expanded on and reinforced
    C. snack and play time.
This format is presented in two sessions:  one for 1st. through 3rd. grades, and next  4th. through 6th. grades.
The 7th and 8th grade students are presented a different style program geared more to their needs.
Approximately 20 - 22 adults volunteer each month to help with Bible Released Time making it one of the best staffed Released Times in the state.

DAY CAMP
Each year around the 1st. week in June, we put on Day Camp here at Octavia Baptist Church.  This is for children through the 6th. grade, and is open to all children in the area who wish to attend.

It is a 5-1/2 to 6 hour day with class time, game time, snack time, lunch, group participation, singing, all with the intention of growing children in the awareness and knowledge of God and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Day Camp has been a part of Octavia Baptist Church for about 20 years and continues to reach out to children in the area.  Van routes are established to pick up those kids who need a ride to and from camp, and special care is taken with any questions that may arise regarding salvation, baptism, etc.

There are pictures of some of our previous Day Camps available for your viewing.   See the Photo Albums link under About OBC on the Home Page.
